AIR CONDITIONING REPAIRS

Air conditioning repairs on the Gold Coast, diagnosed properly the first time

Hi, I'm Nick. If your system has stopped, I'll come out, find the actual fault and tell you straight what it takes to fix. Same or next business day in most cases, and I'm available after hours when it can't wait.

The Basics

When your air conditioner stops working

An air conditioning repair starts with finding out what's actually wrong, which is the part most people can't do themselves. I repair ducted systems, split systems and multi-head setups right across the Gold Coast and Tweed Heads.

Any brand, and it makes no difference who installed it. Because I take the call and I'm the one who turns up, nothing gets lost between an office and a ute. Tell me what it's doing over the phone and I can usually work out what I'm walking into, which means I arrive with the right parts instead of booking a second visit.

  • Same or next business day in most cases
  • Any brand, any age, whoever installed it
  • Call-out fee quoted before I leave, repair priced before I start

COMMON FAULTS

What's it doing?

Here's what I get called out for most, and what each one normally points to.

It's running, but the air is warm

Usually low refrigerant from a leak, a compressor that's given up, or a fault in the outdoor unit. Worth looking at sooner rather than later, because a system short on gas keeps working itself harder.

The airflow has dropped off

Most of the time it's a choked filter, which is a five minute fix. If it isn't, the indoor fan or the ductwork is the next place I look.

Water is dripping inside

That's a blocked condensate drain. Very common in our humidity, straightforward to clear, and worth doing quickly before it marks a ceiling.

There's ice on the pipework or the coil

Restricted airflow or low refrigerant. Switch it off and give me a ring, because running a system while it's iced up puts real strain on the compressor.

It's making a noise it never used to make

Rattles are usually something loose. Grinding or screeching from the outdoor unit points to a bearing or a fan motor, and that one shouldn't sit.

There's a musty smell when it starts up

Mould and bacteria have taken hold on the coil and in the drain tray. A proper clean sorts it out.

A fault code or a flashing light

Every brand codes differently. Read me the code or count the flashes and I'll usually know the answer before I arrive.

It keeps tripping the power

That's electrical, and I'd treat it seriously. Leave the breaker off and call me.

It won't turn on at all

Sometimes it's the remote, the batteries or the isolator switch. I'll ask you to check a couple of easy things first, because I'd rather you didn't pay me to change a battery.

It runs for a while, then shuts down

That's often the system protecting itself, which sends me back to airflow, refrigerant levels or a sensor.

WHAT I FIX

What I repair, and how fast I can get there

No job screening, no brand snobbery, and a straight answer on timing.

Ducted, split and multi-head

Wall units, cassettes, multi-head setups and full ducted systems, residential right through to light commercial.

Every major brand

Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, LG, Midea, Gree, TCL and the rest. Budget units included.

Systems I didn't install

Plenty of my repair work is on gear I've never seen, including units bought from a retailer and fitted by someone who's since disappeared.

Same or next business day

Most breakdowns get seen within a day. In a heatwave that can stretch, and I'll tell you honestly rather than promise a slot I can't hit.

After hours and emergencies

When it genuinely can't wait, I'll come out beyond normal hours. Higher fee, explained before I attend, never afterwards.

My Process

How a call-out works

Four steps, and you approve the money at every one of them.

1

You tell me what it's doing

Ring me and describe it. The symptom usually narrows it down before I've left the driveway, so I turn up with the right parts.

2

I quote the call-out fee before I leave

You hear the number over the phone and agree to it first. That's the whole point of quoting it up front.

3

I diagnose it on site

This is the bit you're actually paying for. Seventeen years means I know where to look, so you're buying a correct answer rather than an afternoon of guessing.

4

You get the price before I touch anything

I'll price the repair. If replacing makes better sense, I'll price that too and lay both numbers side by side. Nothing goes ahead until you say so.

REPAIR OR REPLACE

Repair it, or replace it?

This is the conversation most people are dreading, so I'll make it easy. You get both numbers and the honest reasoning behind each.

Worth repairing

A blocked drain, a failed capacitor, a tired fan motor on a system that's otherwise got years in it. I'll fix those and you'll barely think about it again.

Better off replaced

Once a system is into its teens, parts get harder to find, older refrigerants get dearer, and the thing you fix today is rarely the thing that fails next.

Worth a service instead

Cover several rooms off a single outdoor unit with a multi-head setup, or run the whole floor on ducted or VRV. Bigger job, bigger spend, and worth it when the layout calls for it.

What I won't do is make the decision for you. If I can see you're about to spend half the cost of a new system to buy eighteen more months out of an old one, I'll say so plainly. Then you get both prices, a straight answer on how much life is realistically left, and it's your call. I've talked people out of repairs that would have been the easier sell, and I've talked people out of replacing systems that had plenty left in them. Both happen.

Why work with me

Why people call me back

A breakdown is a bad day, and who turns up decides how bad it gets. Here's what you're actually getting.

You're not starting from scratch every time

I remember your place and your system. If I've been there before, I already know the layout, the age of the unit and what I found last visit.

Quick, correct diagnosis

Seventeen years on the Gold Coast means I've met most faults before. You're paying for the answer, not the hours.

No creeping costs

The call-out is quoted before I come, the repair is quoted before I start, and if something unexpected turns up I stop and talk to you rather than pushing on.

Advice without a sales pitch attached

Sometimes the honest answer costs me the job. I'd rather that than have you spend money in the wrong place.

Peace of mind

Who's coming into your home

Fair question when you're letting a stranger in at short notice. Here's what I hold:

  • ARCtick refrigeration licence, and the qualification for restricted electrical work
  • Public liability insurance
  • A 12-month workmanship warranty on the repairs I carry out
  • Seventeen years on the tools, with a name suppliers and other trades know

Areas I cover

I'm Gold Coast based and I work the length of the coast and down into Tweed Heads. For the right job I'll go further, out to Brisbane, the Northern Rivers, Toowoomba and Warwick. If you're not sure whether you're in range, ring me and I'll tell you straight away.

Questions I get about repairs

Still not sure about something? Ask me directly and I'll give you a straight answer.

There is, and you'll know what it is before I get in the ute. I quote it over the phone and you agree to it first. The repair itself is priced separately once I've diagnosed the fault, and you approve that before I start.

Most jobs are same day or next business day. In the middle of a heatwave that can stretch, and I'll tell you honestly rather than promising a time I can't hit. If it's urgent, say so when you call.

Yes. Any brand, any installer, including systems fitted years ago by someone else.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I'll give you the repair price and the replacement price together, along with an honest read on how long the old unit has left, and you decide from there.

Yes, for genuine emergencies. There's a higher fee and I'll tell you what it is before I attend.

Usually low refrigerant from a leak, a compressor problem, or a fault outside. It needs a licensed technician with gauges, so it isn't a fix-it-yourself job.

Yes, and I'd rather you did. Pull the filter out and see if it's choked with dust. Check the remote is on cooling and set below room temperature, and that the batteries are good. Check the isolator switch by the outdoor unit and the breaker in the switchboard. That handful of checks solves a fair few calls, and it costs you nothing.

Book a repair

Tell me what it's doing and I'll tell you what happens next. No call centre, no handover, just me.

What happens when you call

  • A real timeframe, not a vague promise about sometime this week
  • The call-out fee quoted before I leave, and the repair priced before I start
  • Both repair and replacement numbers if your system is at that age, so you decide with the full picture
